Solar Shield Mineral Balm — 100 ml
SOLAR SHIELD MINERAL BALM
Mineral Skin Moisturiser
Protect • Nourish • Restore
A rich, water-free mineral balm formulated with 25% non-nano zinc oxide suspended within a nourishing blend of jojoba, shea butter, beeswax and botanical oils.
Solar Shield was created for skin exposed to the elements — combining the physical presence of zinc oxide with a concentrated moisturising balm designed to soften, condition and support the skin's surface barrier.
It is intentionally simple, substantial and mineral-rich.
WHY WE CREATED SOLAR SHIELD
Skin exposed to sun, wind and dry outdoor conditions often needs more than a lightweight moisturiser.
We wanted to create a balm that combined two things:
A high concentration of mineral zinc oxide
and
A rich, protective moisturising base.
Rather than starting with water, Solar Shield is formulated entirely from zinc oxide, oils, butter, wax and selected botanical ingredients.
The result is a concentrated mineral balm that stays on the skin rather than behaving like a conventional lightweight lotion.
25% NON-NANO ZINC OXIDE
The defining ingredient
Zinc oxide is an inorganic mineral widely used in topical cosmetic and sunscreen formulations.
Solar Shield contains 25% non-nano zinc oxide by weight.
"Non-nano" refers to the particle-size specification of the zinc oxide raw material.
We chose a non-nano mineral because we wanted zinc oxide to remain a substantial and visible part of the formulation rather than trying to make the product behave like an invisible serum.
That decision affects the finished product.
Solar Shield may leave a visible mineral cast, particularly when too much is applied.
We consider that preferable to pretending a mineral-rich balm containing 25% zinc oxide will behave exactly like a transparent moisturiser.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SPF
The percentage of zinc oxide in a formulation does not, by itself, establish an SPF rating.
SPF is a property of the finished formulation, not simply an ingredient percentage.
Particle characteristics, dispersion, film formation, application amount and the rest of the formulation can all influence performance.
For that reason, we do not assign Solar Shield an SPF number based solely on the fact that it contains 25% zinc oxide.
A specific SPF claim should only be made once the finished formulation has undergone appropriate testing.
We would rather tell you exactly what is in the jar than make a protection claim we haven't established.
THE FORMULATION
NON-NANO ZINC OXIDE
25% of the formula
The mineral heart of Solar Shield.
Zinc oxide is incorporated throughout the oil-and-wax base rather than simply dusted into the finished balm.
Achieving an even dispersion is an important part of manufacturing a mineral formulation.
JOJOBA
The balancing oil
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than a conventional triglyceride oil.
Its distinctive wax-ester composition gives it an elegant skin feel and makes it particularly useful in oil-based cosmetic formulations.
In Solar Shield, jojoba helps create a more spreadable base around what would otherwise be an extremely dense mineral formulation.
SHEA BUTTER
Rich emollience
Shea butter provides richness and body while functioning as an emollient.
It helps soften and condition the skin and contributes to the substantial balm texture we wanted for Solar Shield.
BEESWAX
Structure & staying power
Beeswax provides structure.
But its role goes beyond making the balm solid.
Together with the oils and butter, it helps create the persistent lipid film characteristic of Solar Shield.
That is important because this product is deliberately designed to remain present on the skin.
CASTOR OIL
Mineral dispersion & richness
Castor oil has a very different composition and texture from many common plant oils.
It is naturally rich in ricinoleic acid and has a thick, viscous consistency.
Within Solar Shield, that viscosity is particularly useful in the oil phase surrounding the mineral component and contributes to the balm's characteristic slip and richness.
SWEET ALMOND OIL
Softness & spreadability
Sweet almond oil provides emollience and helps soften the heavier wax-and-butter structure.
Its presence allows Solar Shield to spread more readily across the skin despite its substantial mineral content.
COCONUT OIL
Texture & emollience
Coconut oil contributes both emollience and structure.
Because it changes consistency with temperature, it also contributes to the way the finished balm responds to warmth.
THE BOTANICAL DETAILS
SEA BUCKTHORN
An intensely coloured botanical oil naturally containing carotenoid pigments and a distinctive mixture of lipids.
We use it at a low concentration because it doesn't need to dominate the formula to contribute its botanical character.
CARROT SEED
A concentrated botanical component used in a deliberately small amount.
Carrot-derived ingredients are sometimes promoted online as having a "natural SPF."
We do not use that claim.
Its presence in Solar Shield does not allow us to assign the product additional SPF.
It is included as part of our botanical oil blend.
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E is included primarily as an antioxidant for the oil phase of the formulation.
In an anhydrous product containing several plant oils, antioxidants can help slow oxidative deterioration of susceptible oils.
It should not be confused with a preservative: antioxidants and antimicrobial preservatives perform different jobs.
WHY A BALM?
Solar Shield isn't trying to imitate a conventional sunscreen lotion.
It contains no added water.
Instead, zinc oxide is dispersed through a concentrated mixture of oils, butter and wax.
That gives Solar Shield its distinctive character:
Rich
Mineral
Protective-feeling
Persistent
Concentrated
And because there is no water diluting the formulation, very little product is required for ordinary moisturising use.
THE PROCESS
Solar Shield is one of our more technically demanding balms.
The ingredients aren't simply melted together and poured into a jar.
1 — PREPARING THE LIPID BASE
The oils, shea butter and beeswax are accurately weighed according to the formulation.
Solid components are gently melted to create a uniform oil phase.
2 — PREPARING THE MINERAL
Zinc oxide is accurately weighed.
Because it is a fine mineral powder, careful handling is required during manufacture to minimise airborne dust.
3 — DISPERSION
This is one of the most important stages.
The zinc oxide must be thoroughly incorporated into the oil phase.
Poor dispersion can leave agglomerates and an inconsistent product.
The aim is a smooth, uniform mineral dispersion throughout the balm.
4 — BOTANICAL ADDITIONS
The remaining botanical oils and vitamin E are incorporated at the appropriate stage of manufacture.
5 — CONTROLLED COOLING
As the formulation cools, the beeswax, shea and other lipids establish the final structure of the balm.
6 — FILLING
Solar Shield is filled while the formulation remains sufficiently fluid to distribute evenly.
It is then allowed to cool and establish its final consistency.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Solar Shield is different from a conventional moisturiser.
THE TEXTURE
Dense and rich in the jar.
The warmth of your fingertips softens the balm and makes it easier to distribute.
THE FINISH
More substantial than our other moisturisers.
Because it contains 25% zinc oxide, some visible mineral residue or white cast is possible.
THE FEEL
Protective and persistent rather than weightless.
This is intentional.
HOW TO USE
Take a small amount with clean, dry fingers.
Warm between the fingertips until the balm softens.
Apply evenly to exposed skin and massage gently to distribute the mineral balm.
For ordinary moisturising use, begin with a small amount and increase only if necessary.
Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
FACE
Warm a small amount thoroughly between the fingers before application.
Apply gradually rather than placing one large amount onto the face.
This makes it easier to achieve an even finish and control the mineral cast.
BODY
Solar Shield can also be used on exposed areas including:
Face
Neck
Décolletage
Hands
Arms
Shoulders

NATURAL VARIATION
Solar Shield contains natural oils, butter, wax and botanical ingredients.
Small variations in colour, aroma and texture can occur between batches.
Temperature also affects the consistency of a water-free balm.
Warm conditions may soften it.
Cold conditions may make it considerably firmer.
Neither automatically means the product has deteriorated.
PRODUCT CARE
Store closed in a cool, dry place.
Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Use clean, dry fingers or a clean cosmetic spatula.
Avoid introducing water into the jar.
If the product develops a distinctly rancid or abnormal odour, discontinue use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Solar Shield a sunscreen?
Solar Shield contains 25% non-nano zinc oxide, an ingredient widely used in mineral sunscreens.
However, we do not assign Solar Shield an SPF rating until the finished formulation has undergone appropriate SPF testing.
Customers requiring a tested level of sun protection should use a properly tested and labelled sunscreen.
Does 25% zinc oxide mean SPF 30 or SPF 50?
No.
You cannot reliably calculate the SPF of a finished product from zinc oxide percentage alone.
A 25% zinc oxide concentration is a formulation fact.
An SPF number is a performance claim that needs to be established for the finished product.
They are not interchangeable.
Why non-nano?
We deliberately selected a non-nano grade of zinc oxide for this formulation.
That choice also means customers should expect a more noticeable mineral presence than they might experience with some highly engineered transparent sunscreen formulations.
Will it leave a white cast?
It can.
Solar Shield contains a substantial amount of zinc oxide.
The degree of visible cast depends on the amount applied, how thoroughly it is distributed and individual skin tone.
We would rather explain this clearly than promise an invisible finish.
Is carrot seed oil a natural sunscreen?
We don't market it that way.
Claims assigning high SPF values to carrot seed oil circulate widely online, but they shouldn't be used to determine the protection offered by a finished cosmetic formulation.
Why isn't there water in the formula?
Solar Shield was intentionally designed as an anhydrous mineral balm.
The oils, butter and wax create the continuous phase in which the zinc oxide is dispersed.
Can I use it every day?
It can be used as a cosmetic mineral moisturising balm according to your skin's needs.
If you're relying on a product specifically for protection against sunburn and UV exposure, use a sunscreen with a tested and clearly stated SPF and follow its application directions.
WHAT WE WILL — AND WON'T — PROMISE
We will tell you:
There is 25% non-nano zinc oxide in the formula.
We will tell you what every ingredient is doing there.
We will explain how the balm is made.
And we will tell you what we don't yet know.
What we won't do is turn an ingredient percentage into an invented SPF number.
That isn't transparency.
THE HEALER
Nature heals, we simply honor that wisdom.
Thoughtful ingredients. Purposeful formulation. Nothing hidden.
Apply an even, generous layer to exposed skin as the final step in your morning routine, before sun exposure. Blend carefully to ensure complete, consistent coverage.
Reapply regularly, especially after swimming, perspiring, towelling or extended time outdoors. Applying too little will reduce the level of protection.
Allow water-based skincare, including the Aloe Hydration Botanical Elixir, to settle before applying Solar Shield.
Sun protection is only one part of responsible sun care. Seek shade, wear protective clothing and limit prolonged exposure during peak sunlight.
For external use only. Review the ingredient list and patch test before first use. Avoid contact with the eyes and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
No topical product provides complete protection. Do not remain in the sun for extended periods, even while using a sun-protection product. Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight and seek professional advice when appropriate.
Product care: Store closed in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat. Use clean, dry fingers and avoid introducing water into the jar. Natural colour and texture may vary slightly between batches.
