Inside The Healer Formulas
Every ingredient in a water-free formula has a practical purpose: to soften, structure, improve spreadability, support stability or contribute a carefully chosen botanical character. This guide gives the common name, recognised cosmetic ingredient name (INCI), botanical or scientific identity, source, important natural constituents and the reason each material is included.
A note on natural materials: their colour, aroma and texture can vary with origin, harvest and season. Botanical constituents also vary naturally. The information below explains cosmetic function and traditional use; it is not a claim that a product diagnoses, treats or cures a medical condition.
Whipped Tallow Skin Balm
50 ml · Rich nourishment and skin-barrier support
A concentrated, water-free balm built around grass-fed beef tallow, balanced with plant oils, butter and botanical powders for a creamy texture and a comfortable finish.
Grass-fed beef tallow
INCI: Tallow
Scientific source: Rendered bovine adipose lipid; grass-fed source
Tallow is the structural and emollient foundation of this balm. It is a complex lipid material containing predominantly triglycerides made from fatty acids such as oleic, palmitic and stearic acid, with smaller proportions varying according to the animal’s diet and source. Its semi-solid consistency gives the balm body without requiring a large amount of wax. On the skin it reduces roughness, improves slip and leaves a substantial protective-feeling layer that helps limit moisture loss. “Grass-fed” describes the sourcing of the raw material; it does not change the recognised INCI name.
Shea butter
INCI: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
Botanical source: Fat from the kernels of Vitellaria paradoxa
Shea butter contributes stearic and oleic acids together with a naturally occurring unsaponifiable fraction. This combination gives richness, cushion and a slow, comfortable melt at skin temperature. It supports a creamy whipped structure, softens dry-feeling areas and helps the balm remain on the skin longer than a light liquid oil would.
Jojoba oil
INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
Botanical source: Seeds of Simmondsia chinensis
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than a conventional triglyceride oil. It consists mainly of long-chain wax esters and is valued for excellent oxidative stability, silky glide and a lighter after-feel. In this formula it loosens the richer tallow and shea butter, improves spreadability and helps a very small amount distribute evenly.
Castor oil
INCI: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
Botanical source: Seeds of Ricinus communis
Castor oil is unusually rich in ricinoleic acid, a hydroxylated fatty acid responsible for its dense texture, gloss and strong adhesion. It improves glide while helping the balm form a thin, persistent film. Cosmetic castor oil is processed from the seed oil; the toxic protein ricin is not oil-soluble and is not present in properly manufactured cosmetic-grade oil.
Calendula oil
Botanical identity: Calendula officinalis
Supplier description: Pure calendula oil
Calendula is selected for its gentle botanical character and long history of use in preparations for dry or delicate-feeling skin. Its flowers naturally contain carotenoids, flavonoids and triterpenoid compounds. In an oil-based formula it contributes a soothing skin feel and complements richer emollients. Because commercial “calendula oil” may be supplied as an infused extract, the final INCI declaration will follow the supplier’s specification when that documentation is available.
Arrowroot powder
INCI: Maranta Arundinacea Root Powder
Botanical source: Rhizomes of Maranta arundinacea
Arrowroot is a fine, plant-derived starch used primarily for sensory performance. It absorbs a small amount of surface oil, reduces excessive shine and gives a soft, powdery finish. It does not remove the balm’s richness; instead, it makes that richness feel smoother and less greasy during application.
Rosemary essential oil
INCI: Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil
Accepted botanical name: Salvia rosmarinus
Rosemary essential oil is a concentrated aromatic distillate containing naturally occurring volatile compounds that can include 1,8-cineole, camphor and alpha-pinene, depending on chemotype and origin. It is used at a low level for its fresh herbal aroma and antioxidant botanical character. As with all essential oils, concentration matters; patch testing is recommended for sensitive skin.
Vitamin E
INCI: Tocopherol
Tocopherol is an oil-soluble antioxidant added mainly to slow oxidation of the formula’s fats and oils. It helps protect aroma, colour and freshness during storage. It also contributes to a conditioned skin feel, but its principal technical role here is formula stability. Tocopherol is not a broad-spectrum preservative and does not make a product containing water microbiologically safe.
Sea buckthorn seed oil
INCI: Hippophae Rhamnoides Seed Oil
Botanical source: Seeds of Hippophae rhamnoides
Sea buckthorn seed oil contains a mixture of linoleic, alpha-linolenic and oleic acids, together with tocopherols, phytosterols and naturally occurring carotenoid pigments. Seed oil is compositionally different from the more intensely orange fruit-pulp oil. It adds botanical diversity, antioxidant compounds and a naturally warm tone while being used sparingly because of its colour and concentration.
Rejuvenation Botanical Balm
50 ml · Deep botanical nourishment
A rich botanical balm combining softening plant oils, protective waxes and aromatic botanicals for dry-feeling, mature or environmentally exposed skin.
Sweet almond oil
INCI: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil
Botanical source: Kernels of Prunus dulcis
Sweet almond oil is the principal liquid emollient. It is typically rich in oleic acid, with linoleic and palmitic acids in smaller proportions. It provides smooth glide, reduces the feeling of roughness and gives the balm a gentle, flexible texture. Anyone with a known nut allergy should review the ingredient list and seek appropriate professional guidance before use.
Jojoba oil
INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
Jojoba’s long-chain wax esters improve oxidative stability and help balance the heavier butter, coconut oil and beeswax. It allows the balm to spread in a thinner, more even layer and leaves a polished rather than excessively oily finish.
Shea butter
INCI: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
Shea butter adds structure, cushion and prolonged softness. Its stearic-acid content helps the balm hold its shape, while its oleic-acid content contributes an easy melt. Naturally occurring unsaponifiable components add to its valued conditioning character.
Coconut oil
INCI: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
Botanical source: Kernel of Cocos nucifera
Coconut oil contains a high proportion of medium-chain saturated fatty acids, particularly lauric acid. It is solid or semi-solid in cooler conditions and melts readily with warmth. In the balm it supports a clean melt, softness and easy spreadability while helping create a smooth, cohesive texture.
Beeswax
INCI: Cera Alba
Beeswax is a natural mixture of wax esters, hydrocarbons and fatty-acid-derived compounds produced by honeybees. It gives the balm firmness, raises its melting stability and leaves a light occlusive film. This film helps hold the oils in place and reduce the rate at which moisture evaporates from the skin.
Calendula oil
Botanical identity: Calendula officinalis
Supplier description: Pure calendula oil
Calendula contributes a gentle botanical profile traditionally associated with comforting care for dry or easily unsettled-feeling skin. The flowers contain carotenoids, flavonoids and triterpenoids. Final label nomenclature will follow the supplier’s full INCI documentation.
Roman chamomile essential oil
INCI: Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil
Botanical source: Flowers of Chamaemelum nobile
Roman chamomile is a steam-distilled aromatic oil characterised by naturally occurring esters such as angelates, although composition varies with origin. It is used in a very small amount for its soft herbaceous aroma and traditional association with calm, gentle skincare. It remains a concentrated essential oil and should be treated accordingly.
Turmeric essential oil
INCI: Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Oil
Botanical source: Rhizome of Curcuma longa
Turmeric essential oil is the volatile aromatic fraction of the turmeric rhizome and is different from turmeric powder or curcumin extract. Its profile can contain turmerones and other sesquiterpenes. It contributes a warm botanical note and antioxidant character without being presented as a medical treatment.
Vitamin E
INCI: Tocopherol
Tocopherol helps delay oxidation of the plant oils and supports product freshness. It also adds to the formula’s smooth, conditioned after-feel. Its role is antioxidant protection of the oil phase, not microbial preservation.
Sea buckthorn seed oil
INCI: Hippophae Rhamnoides Seed Oil
The seed oil provides essential fatty acids, tocopherols and phytosterols with a lighter colour than typical fruit-pulp oil. It is included at a controlled level to contribute botanical complexity and antioxidant compounds without overwhelming the balm’s colour or aroma.
Solar Shield Mineral Balm
100 ml · Mineral barrier balm for responsible everyday sun habits
A substantial water-free balm that disperses non-nano zinc oxide through botanical oils, shea butter and beeswax.
Non-nano zinc oxide — 25%
INCI: Zinc Oxide
Scientific identity: ZnO
Zinc oxide is an insoluble inorganic mineral powder. “Non-nano” refers to the supplier’s declared particle-size classification; it does not mean the powder is invisible on skin. At 25%, it forms the mineral phase of Solar Shield and can leave a visible white cast. Castor and jojoba oils help wet and disperse the particles evenly. Solar Shield does not currently carry a laboratory-tested SPF rating and must not replace a tested, appropriately rated sunscreen.
Jojoba oil
INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
Jojoba acts as a stable liquid emollient and assists with mineral dispersion. Its wax-esters improve slip, helping zinc oxide spread more evenly while balancing the heavier beeswax, shea butter and castor oil.
Shea butter
INCI: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
Shea butter adds creaminess and reduces the dry, draggy sensation that a high mineral load can create. Its solid-fat structure also helps keep the zinc oxide suspended within the balm.
Beeswax
INCI: Cera Alba
Beeswax provides structure and staying power. It thickens the oil phase, helps reduce settling of dispersed mineral particles and leaves a protective-feeling film that improves adherence to the skin.
Castor oil
INCI: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
Castor oil’s high ricinoleic-acid content gives it strong polarity and affinity for powders. This makes it especially useful for wetting, dispersing and holding zinc oxide, while its dense texture improves adhesion and creates a smooth, persistent finish.
Sweet almond oil
INCI: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil
Sweet almond oil softens the mineral balm and improves flexibility. Its oleic- and linoleic-acid-rich profile contributes emollience and offsets some of the drier sensory character of zinc oxide.
Coconut oil
INCI: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
Coconut oil supports a smooth melt and easier spreading. Its semi-solid texture at moderate temperatures contributes structure while melting quickly as the balm is worked over warm skin.
Corn starch
INCI: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch
Botanical source: Grain of Zea mays
Corn starch is a fine botanical powder used to refine texture, absorb some surface oil and soften the after-feel. It helps the mineral balm feel smoother and less tacky without replacing the functional zinc-oxide phase.
Sea buckthorn seed oil
INCI: Hippophae Rhamnoides Seed Oil
Sea buckthorn seed oil contributes linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids, tocopherols and phytosterols. It adds botanical antioxidant compounds and subtle natural colour to the formula.
Carrot seed essential oil
INCI: Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil
Botanical source: Seeds of Daucus carota
Carrot seed essential oil is an aromatic distillate whose natural volatile profile commonly includes carotol and related sesquiterpenes. It is used at a low concentration for its earthy aromatic character and botanical antioxidant profile. It does not provide a verified SPF rating.
Vitamin E
INCI: Tocopherol
Tocopherol slows oxidation of the balm’s natural oils and helps preserve freshness during normal storage. It is neither a sunscreen nor a complete preservative system.
Why our balms are water-free
These formulas contain oils, fats, butters, waxes, minerals and oil-compatible botanicals with no added water. They are therefore highly concentrated and only a small amount is needed. Water-free does not mean indestructible: use clean, dry hands or a clean spatula, keep water out of the jar and store it away from direct heat and sunlight.
